This edition of UTech Timez represents the foundation of a platform of which we will utilize to communicate to the student populous of UTech.

As the end of the semester approaches, let us review all the challenges and successes that have passed. This publication will focus on all happenings of semester one. From intellectual to spiritual as well as physical development, this publication will reflect on what was “Semester 1-the beginning”. The University of Technology, Jamaica Students’ Union assures you that every effort is being made to cater for your holistic development. Notable, the Knights male and female Inter-Faculty football competition, Clubs & Societies Day, the Teach the Youth programme, The Genesis (Freshers’ Fete), Perpetual Praise, the offering of scholarships and bursaries and Tag Drive as well as the continued services (office services, laundromat, love lunch, love bus etc.) are avenues which we have explored and we will continue to improve on to effectively serve and represent you.

It is very important that you keep abreast with all matters that concern you as a student in order to appropriately act to suite whatever situation that might occur. As students, it is our duty to read all material supplied to us including this publication, UTech’s Student Handbook, the Students’ Union Handbook as well as any other material that will aid in our development.

UTech Students' Union Student Guide 2010/2011

We would like to use this medium to extend welcome to all new and returning students to the University of Technology, Jamaica. This Institution has been known for producing graduates that are well rounded as a result of participating in various extra-curricular activities while maintaining a balance with their academic life.

We the University of Technology, Jamaica Students’ Union Council will assist in your development by effectively representing you on all matters of interest. We have adequately prepared ourselves to address all aspects of the student populous, including: physical, spiritual, intellectual and academic development, all of which are crucial to your holistic development. The onus is therefore on you to participate, listen, make suggestions and reap the rewards that are available for the taking.

We are also here to assist you with any academic issue or mishap you might experience during your tenure at UTech. Do not be afraid to contact any council member for assistance on any matter; we are here “to serve and to represent”. I truly hope you will enjoy your tenure here and we will also use other mediums to communicate to you such as our newsletters and our website, where you can keep abreast to the latest happenings on campus.
