I am elated to have you as a part of the UTech Students’ Union.  The motto of the Students’ Union is, To Serve and to Represent and for this academic year we pride ourselves in the theme; “Ultimate Representation; Quality Service”. We seek to be more than ordinary servants’ ensuring that your voice is heard and responded to, on all boards and at all levels of the University's' Organizational Structure. Your arrival at this premier national University marks the beginning of a challenging but rewarding journey. This year is significant as UTech celebrates with Jamaica our country's 50 year independence; the institution has indeed been significant in the development of this independent nation

As your Students’ Union President for the Academic year 2012-13, it is my responsibility to assist in setting you on the right path for this new experience. This will only be made possible with the support of my 29 member council that is deemed a competent team of visionary student leaders. It is your duty to be receptive to the guidance and services that will be made available to you after all the Council is your refuge for holistic development. 
 
Be positive, proactive, and productive, aim to capitalize on the extra curricula activities made available, keeping a balance and thus ensuring a memorable and fruitful experience. The orientation magazine we have created for you is not only an introduction to the Council and to the University at large but it also serves as an invitation to make the most of the UTech experience. With that said, It is advised that you do take advantage of the various forms of communication available for you, as we encourage student power and consistent communication among us as the clients of this noble institution.
 
The life of a university student is an extra-ordinary experience, here you will begin to write your almost immediate future, the journey is filled with tribulations and it is for this reason that our time and our representation is available to you. Remember, know your Council, know your rights!

I deem it an honor and an esteemed privilege to welcome both new and returning students to  University of Technology, Jamaica for the academic year 2012/2013, as the 1st Vice President of the UTech Students’ Union, with the portfolio of Academic Affairs. The University of Technology, Jamaica is the platform to the total education of the individual as a social being and seeks to develop the whole person in terms of personal well-being and social and intellectual competence. It promotes life-long learning, personal and professional development and service to the community. The University of Technology, Jamaica, Students’ Union is a non-profit organization which serves and represents a cohort of approximately 13,000 students. The mission of the Students’ Union is; to effectively serve and protect the rights of students promoting their academic, social, cultural, spiritual and physical development, while fostering relations with the wider community.

As the 1st Vice President, Academic Affairs, my duties include ensuring that all aspects of your academic journey within this university are of paramount excellence. I am here to advise you in an area that I am quite competent but it is not limited to such as here at this university most of your learning experiences will take place outside the classroom. I take great pleasure in welcoming all NEW and RETURNING students to the University of Technology, Jamaica. Within the University we are a selected few, chosen BY you FOR you, we are known as the UTech Students’ Union. We lobby for your rights and your needs those known and unknown to you. On this council I sit as a humble young man ensuring that your monies are spent in a wise effective and beneficial way thus improving lives within the university. This is to develop you holistically as a person and to make you more marketable within the Jamaican Society.

It is a pleasure to welcome new and returning students to the University of Technology, Jamaica.  As your Vice President of Student services it is my responsibility to ensure the welfare of the student populous.

 You have taken a great step by choosing this institution, a step that will prove to be one of great opportunities. During your tenor at the University of Technology, you will face challenges – however how you view and overcome these encounters make the defining moments in your life.

 The Students’ Union council is here to represent you and work towards making your years spent at University a memorable and empowering experience. By assisting with the welfare of the students, the Students’ Services Portfolio provides: scholarships, bursaries, grants ,and our subsidiary love programmes  which include love bus / shuttle bus system, love lunch and love book program to name a few.

It is with pleasure that I welcome all new and returning students to this noble institution, the University of Technology, Jamaica. In keeping with our theme for this academic year, “Ultimate Representation; Quality Service”, the UTech Students’ Union Council 2012-13 is committed to ensuring that the academic, social and spiritual needs of each and every student are catered to.

As your Vice President Public Relations, I am dedicated to the task of utilizing as many channels as possible to ensure that the student populace is kept abreast of news from all angles of the Students’ Union and the Universitys administration, inclusive of information regarding faculty and school development, academic issues, as well as administrative issues that concern all students.

As a student body, we must strive to be vigilant and empowered, and in order to do so, we must be informed. I therefore charge you to play your part by ensuring that you fully utilize all the mediums available to access the information that is disseminated to you.

With that said, I encourage you to enjoy the many events, opportunities and services that the UTech Students’ Union will make available to you throughout the course of the year. To the returning students, welcome back to a new and exciting year in your college life. We enjoy one of the best climates in the world and a great campus life. 

As students, you are an important part of our community of scholars and we value your contributions and participation. There are so many opportunities available to you here, I encourage you to take advantage of all that our campus has to offer. Challenge yourself with something new: you might undertake an independent art or research project. Join one of our many student clubs, volunteer in our community, run for student government, or participate in an intramural sport.

As the Executive Secretary of the Students' Union for the Academic Year 2012'13, it is my job to ensure that the Students' Union meets and offers the best services to you. Our theme is simple, "Ultimate Representation; Quality Service".
