The University of Technology, Jamaica is a prestigious institution and like many other universities are plagued by various health and safety hazards which affect students on a daily basis. Health and Safety is a main problem whether man-made or natural which is critically in need of being addressed at this institution.

I Davia Thomas am greatly appreciative of being given the opportunity to represent the Students' Union Council and by extension the student populous. It is my desire to help improve the current knowledge of the students so that you all are proactive and properly informed about how to manage yourselves in various situations.

With my past three (3) years of experience in this committee I will seek to continue to assist in improving the awareness of the student population at the university as it relates to their health and safety and its importance.

I implore you to make the most of your time at UTech.  Stay focused but also be strong and courageous because you will have challenging times but that too shall pass. God will be present during your struggles he will not leave you nor forsake you.

It is with great pleasure that I, as Director of Elections, gladly welcome all new and returning students to our prestigious University, the University of Technology, Jamaica. Are you aware of the purpose of the Students' Union? Well, the onus is mine to re-energize and stimulate every student’s appetite to participate in the affairs of the Students' Union. In concurring with the roles of the said union, the elections directorate is responsible for coordinating all activities related to  elections and overseeing the fair and accurate election process. We make decisions every minute, whether positive or negative, whether benign or absurd, then why not make the conscientious choice to elect someone of substance to represent our cause. With creative but relevant initiatives, it is my sincere desire to ignite an unseen passion not just for voting but for truly participating in the direct of our prestigious aforementioned institution.

The UTech Students’ Union is an elected and appointed body of students that earnestly represents the interests of students, by preserving and protecting the traditions and legends of the university and supporting students and student organizations in their academic and community endeavors. In keeping with the University’s core values of; respect, integrity, excellence, innovation, team-spirit, accountability and service the Health and Safety portfolio’s mission is to enhance the quality of life at Utech by providing protection of life and property, including administration of first aid, disaster preparedness and management, assistance in emergencies, self-defense, evacuation procedures and holistic development of the mind, body and soul. I would like to use this medium to welcome one and all to the University of Technology, Jamaica; I am ecstatic to be serving you as the Editor-In-Chief of your Students’ Union.I assure you it will be a year of great accomplishments and loads of fun events. UTech is a great place to accomplish your goals and prosper educationally. I implore you all to be well-rounded and get involved in extracurricular activities enhancing your marketability; thus improving the odds of being successful in the future. You may wonder how to get involved? I started off as an active volunteer to the Students’ Union various committees this made my transition from a student to a rounded student very easy.

The cooperation of students plays an integral role in the execution of the duties of this portfolio; Duties of the Editor-In-Chief include the publication of the uMagazine, regular updates on the various social networks along with the management of the official UTech Students’ Union Website.
